Let Us With A Gladsome Mind By John Milton

Hymnal Devotional: Page

Milton, John, was born in London, Dec. 9, 1608, and died there Nov. 8, 1674. His poetical excellences and his literary fame are matters apart from hymnology, and are fully dealt with in numerous memoirs. His influence on English hymn-writing has been very slight, his 19 versions of various Psalms having lain for the most part unused by hymnal compilers. The dates of his paraphrases are:— Ps. cxiv. and cxxxvi., 1623, when he was 15 years of ago. These were given in his Poems in English and Latin 1645. Ps. lxxx.-lxxxviii., written in 1648, and published as Nine Psalmes done into Metre, 1645. Ps. i., 1653; ii., “Done August 8, 1653;” iii., Aug. 9, 1653; iv. Aug. 10, 1653; v., Aug. 12, 1653; vi., Aug. 13, 1653; vii.Aug. 14, 1653; viii…

Our God meets us right where we are in life for sure!! 🙂

What a GREAT God we serve!!

#SSBJC2020: Camp S’mores Fun

Hey Campers,

Here a great recipe for the foundation of the S’mores!!!

Hugs and prayers….k 🙂

Graham Crackers

HOW TO MAKE GRAHAM CRACKERS by King Arthur Flour

Do you know why graham crackers are called graham crackers? Sylvester Graham, a minister who lived and preached in the first half of the 19th century, carried on a dietary crusade in favor of whole wheat flour, arguing that to separate the bran from the rest of the wheat berry was against the will of God. Thus whole wheat flour, or graham flour — flour milled from the whole wheat berry, rather than just the endosperm. And thus graham crackers — sweet, crisp crackers made from whole wheat flour.

PREP 15 mins

BAKE28 to 30 mins

TOTAL 2 hrs 3 mins

YIELD about 2 dozen graham crackers

Graham Crackers

Ingredients

NUTRITION INFORMATION

Instructions

  1. Combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg with the oil, honey, and 2 tablespoons milk. Stir this egg mixture into the dry ingredients until you have a fairly stiff dough, adding more milk if necessary. Knead the dough gently until smooth.
  3. Wrap the dough and chill it until firm, about 1 hour (or longer, if it’s more convenient).
  4. Preheat the oven to 300°F.
  5. Divide the dough in half and, working with one piece at a time, roll the dough out about 1/16″ thick onto a piece of parchment paper.
  6. Transfer the rolled-out dough on the parchment paper to a baking sheet. Repeat with the second piece of dough.
  7. Brush both pieces of dough with milk then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar, if desired.
  8. Bake the sheets of dough for 10 minutes, rotating the pans after 5 minutes.
  9. Remove pans from the oven, and use a rolling pizza wheel or sharp knife to cut the sheets of dough into 3″ x 2″ rectangles; don’t separate them, just cut them.
  10. Return the cut crackers to the oven, and continue to bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
  11. Turn off the oven, and open the oven door wide for 5 minutes. After the majority of the oven’s heat has dissipated, shut the oven door, and let it cool down for 20 minutes with the crackers inside; this will help them become as crisp as possible.
  12. Remove the crackers from the oven, transfer them to a cooling rack, and cool completely.
  13. Store the crackers, well-wrapped, at room temperature for up to a week; freeze for longer storage.

Tips from our Bakers

  • In testing and re-testing these crackers, we found that the thin, 1/16″ roll-out was essential to getting them perfectly crisp. Rolling the dough out on parchment paper is especially helpful for this reason.

2 Corinthians 12:9-11 NASB

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast [a]about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with [b]insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

11 I have become foolish; you yourselves compelled me. Actually I should have been commended by you, for in no respect was I inferior to the [c]most eminent apostles, even though I am a nobody.

Philippians 4:13

New American Standard Bible

13 I can do all things [a]through Him who strengthens me.

Psalm 1:3

New American Standard Bible

He will be like a tree firmly planted by [a]streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its [b]leaf does not wither;
And [c]in whatever he does, he prospers.

Isaiah 35:2-4

New American Standard Bible

It will blossom profusely
And rejoice with rejoicing and shout of joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
The majesty of Carmel and Sharon.
They will see the glory of the Lord,
The majesty of our God.
Encourage the [a]exhausted, and strengthen the [b]feeble.
Say to those with anxious heart,
“Take courage, fear not.
Behold, your God will come with vengeance;
The recompense of God will come,
But He will save you.”

Galatians 5:22-23

New American Standard Bible

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Ephesians 6:10-20

New American Standard Bible

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against [a]flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 [b]in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 [c]With all prayer and petition [d]pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, [e]be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in [f]chains; that [g]in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
