Crafting Supplies Stash Shopping…

Art supplies Stock Photos

Hello Dear Friends,

How many of you acquire more than you create? I have suddenly realized as the “acquisition officer” in my home…and the busy-ness of our home, I have become the best and yet biggest shopper ever!! We all go through the typical…gonna cut back on spending. But I am going to cut-off my craft spending!! My goal is to save money by using what I have, give great handmade gifts for all occasions this year and fill my Etsy shop to bless others!!

Today begins a new journey for me. I have through the years accumulated a “large” stash of supplies. I have had a Spinning, Weaving and Sewing business as well as Scrapbooking business. I am planning on spending the next month (and each month for the next year…baby steps, baby steps) using my stash. I will take each month at a time. I will have to be creative and shop my stash!! πŸ™‚ Don’t panic…yet!! πŸ˜‰ There will be a very small allowance each month ($20) for custom orders useage of: adhesives, ink for my printer, printer paper, etc.

Now don’t get me wrong…everything I buy is usually ALWAYS on sale or clearance….or I use a coupon or even double stack the coupons. I had become fascinated with extreme coupon-ers. But enough is enough!! You can only have so many supplies…the room is full and it is time to get busy!!

I also will begin next week tracking all expenses. With the online world of debit/credit cards I have totally given up tracking each spend…like we did all those years ago with a simple check register or even envelopes of cash. As I go through this process, I will do my best to share my experiences.

Honestly…I LOVE a good cheap buy!! I always feel as if I have climbed and conquered a mountain with my checked off shopping lists!! Now as a good steward of all I have been blessed with…it is time to get to work and begin blessing others!! The first is to bless my Sweet Husband who has worked hard in the “work world” to pay for most of these goodies!! And then next is to bless my family with hopefully (in time) freeing up space in our home by eliminating the “store”. (I literally have my inventory from my store in my basement!!) Then it is to bless others with gifts of handmade love from our family. And then finally it is to get busy growing and creating in the skills the Lord has given me!! It is all His.

I have loved watching some of the YouTubers share in there journey. I am currently watching ‘OCD Must ?’. Amy does a great job as well as the first video I ever watched…running her home like a business. YES!! Why has that been so hard for me? I have endless experience running and working in businesses? I now see how I need to implement that complete record keeping and accountability to if only myself in written form. I see I have let things slide with the online daily check of our accounts. It is too much with as busy as life can be to try to mentally keep a running tally. Time to tighten the belt and get to business!! πŸ™‚

Now you may read this and think…what a downer!! But I am happy and content to say…honestly, I will miss the looking/shopping but it will be great to get the hoarder monkey off my back!! As well as working to bring in money and not spend out money. Can any of you relate?

On my other blog, I am doing a series of organizer/binders/journals etc. to help better prioritize myself, my family, our finances, my blogs and my YouTube/Etsy shop. I will reblog here to encourage you all as well. There are some fun creative mixed in with the everyday “planning”. πŸ˜‰ Hey…I can still have fun in the “planning” game too!! πŸ˜‰

So I could look at this as the glass half full or half empty. I am determined to see the glass half full!! I am excited to see where I go as a Christian/wife/mother and artist. I am excited to live within my budget and my stash…so to speak and see what is created!! Some of my best recipes when cooking dinner come from using what’s in the fridge!! So here’s to “fridge” shopping my stash and creating some fun new projects this next year!!

I will also have some fun giveaways beginning next week to encourage each of you throughout this next year!! So keep coming back and see how it’s going. Hopefully you will be encourage and inspired as well!!

Have a wonderful week in the Lord,

k

Christmas Card Extravaganza!!

cropped-josephine-hatwomens-hats-2-josephines-silk-flowers-and-lace1.jpg

Hello Dear Friends,

I have been busier “than a cranberry merchant” as my Dear Mom would say. (OK Sis…stop laughing!! πŸ˜‰ )

I have been in Christmas crafting mode!! 100 cards to make in a matter of days. And I have redone my card design at least 6 times!! I even began one design that I began assembling that I will shelf to use another year. πŸ™‚ I have loved every part of this process!! I have loved finding the stamps, dies, papers, embellishments, etc!! I have learned sooo much in this process!! (As I do with each project!! πŸ˜‰ )

I will share some great lessons learned below. I hope these encourage you as well. πŸ™‚ And then I have listed the pictures of the process. Enjoy!! πŸ™‚

1st lesson: Always have back up stamps, dies, papers etc. (Just in case you are a changer minder like me!! πŸ˜‰ )

2nd lesson: Always, always, always have ink refills for the ink you use in your design. I did ok as it was an unused pad but…I really did cut it close!! πŸ˜‰

3rd lesson: Make sure your ink pad is a current color and not discontinued!! OK, you are probably laughing!! But I realized as I pulled 5 different test colors…the one I settled on was a Stampin’ Up discontinued color I had just not used yet. And, I did not have a refill ink!! Seriously I discovered this at 5 am and began to, well….get a little nervous!! πŸ˜‰ All was just fine…PTL!!!

4th lesson: Make sure if you bulk order your paper in the Summer clearance to order double what you think you will need. I literally ordered bulk packages of several different designs of paper and didn’t decide which design until I began this last week. Then when I started cutting all the paper, I realized I needed double the amount of paper. So I then began a 50/50 set of cards. One half is one design of background paper and the other half another. I love them both!! Each one has their own attractive results which have me super excited!! I will show the making of the designs below with primarily the striped. But I will also include a finished pic of the other background paper as well.

5th lesson: Work on your design when quiet and you will not be interrupted. My time came at 5:00 am each morning for 3 days in a row. My Sweet Husband was not feeling well and home sick for a couple of days. So while Β he slept in, I awoke early and worked away for 5 hour stretches at a time!! It was so wonderful to focus on my design and well….play at it too!! πŸ˜‰ I loved mixing and matching and cutting and die cutting to my little heart’s content!! So much fun!!I I was literally red and green ink stained for several days!!

6th lesson: Be sure you have extra and I do mean extra adhesive!! You really go through supplies as you make bulk card sets. I have already burned through 3 miscellaneous small from stash tape runners, 1 ATG refill and one other larger adhesive tape gun…sorry not sure of the make. I did buy it from CKC at the convention. I still can see it will take at least another refill of either large tape guns and most likely the last few smaller tape runners will be used up. Again…always have back up!! Β And the same goes for pop dots as well!! πŸ˜‰

7th lesson: Always be sure to use on every scroll type die cut….wax paper!! It saves so much time!! I buy mine at the Dollar Tree!! That dollar spent goes a long long way!! πŸ™‚

8th lesson: Be sure you have enough card and envelope based materials as well. I decided to go with premade card base and envelope sets from Hobby Lobby. Of course always bought on sale or with my 40% off coupon. πŸ™‚ I bought the large card and envelope base and the small card and envelope base to see what would work best. I thought I had enough and once I began making cards and addressing the envelopes, I realized I needed twice what I had anticipated. (Just didn’t want to miss anyone!! πŸ˜‰ ) As well as the small did not fit at all!! Great lessons learned!! πŸ™‚

9th lesson: Enjoy all the wonderful creative process!! And also enjoy the fun of making something special for each person you send these lovely handmade with love encouragements!! So in other words…be blessed and bless others with all your gifts and talents!! FUN!!!!

Have a wonderful time of preparing for the wonderful season of Christ’s birth,

k

I gathered all my supplies and had to cut my 12×12 paper to fit through my Big Shot for all my die cuts. The same with the wax paper I used to line the dies for easy removal once cut.

Dec. 11, 2014 005Dec. 11, 2014 004

Measure twice but once. πŸ™‚ Also keep notes on all steps of your design. Especially if you cannot complete it in one sitting.

Dec. 11, 2014 002

As I prepared each step…I would organize each step in a basket beside my drafting table. I cannot tell you how wonder this quick and easy step worked!! It saved so much time!! And it kept each prepared item neatly in place until needed!!
