Hello Dear Friends, 

I am soooo excited to share with you a fun new event to my YouTube channel!! I have loved Creative Memories for many many years!! I loved when I was a consultant many years ago and I am thrilled to be apart of them again!! 

Having a Grandmother with dementia and a Mom who recently passed with Alzheimer’s, memory keeping is invaluable!!! I loved working on albums for my family!! I loved making albums for my Grandmother and Mom. When they were confused, I would show them pictures and walk them through time by looking at their memory books. The nurses and doctors always thanked me. They knew that love and sharing memories was so much better than medications. And I must tell you though it didn’t heal their struggles, they both knew they were loved and they always could find a part of their history to bring them back to the present…as much as they were able. For my Grandmother it was always successful…for my Mom, I was so blessed that she found comfort and could always find something in her albums to remember. 

Now they are both gone, and though I miss them both, I now am the caretaker of those precious albums and those incredible memories. It was a blessing then…and it is a blessing now. 

Being a story teller is the greatest gift we can give to our families…I know this with all my heart. I know I have allot to be thankful for, and this part of my journey is a blessing from the Lord. And now it is my job, to pass on the stories to my children…and one day my grandchildren. And I will be thankful to have these family history books ready to share.

How do you recognize Jesus’ followers?  How do you find Christians?  Jesus said they love each other just as he loved the disciples. In the immediate context, this means he is willing to give sacrificially and extravagantly by dying for them on the cross, and he is also willing to love selflessly and practically by washing their feet. His ministry reveals he also will do almost anything in between extravagant and practical. Imagine if we all read the Gospels, and committed to love each other in the same way Jesus showed his love to his disciples!

6 Ways to Prepare for the Holidays

Preparing for the holidays can be a lot of work. In fact, during the next few weeks, your Christmas to-do list is probably about to grow into an outrageous, poster-sized banner. Am I right? And then, before you know it, your Christmas experience turns into a frenzy of challenging task after challenging task.

Why not do it differently this year? Let’s get a head start on this season to ensure that this Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of Our Savior. Below you will find six ways you can prepare for Christmas while remembering the reason we celebrate the season.

1. Add an advent calendar to your nightly routine. An advent calendar is a wonderful way to prepare your family for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Not sure how an advent calendar works? Check out our article on How To Use An Advent Calendar and get a head start on the celebration this year.

2. Decorate your Christmas tree as a family.  Choose lights and ornaments that represent the true Christmas story. With the Twelve Names of Christmas Ornaments, you can start 12 days before Christmas—read one story each night with your family and have your children hang the corresponding ornament on the tree.

3. Serve others. Start a card ministry, organize a bake sale for your favorite charity, deliver pre-cooked Christmas dinners or easy-clean-up meals to your elderly friends, or volunteer your time at a local food pantry. By serving others at Christmas and year-round, you are answering God’s call in your life. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 ESV

4. Decorate gradually. Slow down the process of putting your nativity scene out. By displaying your manger scene one piece at a time, you will be able to truly focus on the involvement of each person in the miraculous first Christmas story—of course, topping it off Christmas Day with the arrival of baby Jesus.

5. Find time to sit quietly. As the busyness of the holiday season approaches, set aside a designated time each day to fully focus on listening to God’s voice. Pick up some prayer resources to help deepen your personal relationship with Jesus as we approach the celebration of His birth.

6. Study the Christmas story. Read enlightening books about the amazing birth of Jesus. The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamphelps readers celebrate the lineage and the majesty of Jesus Christ; while The Women of Christmas by Liz Curtis Higgsfocuses more on the biblical stories of Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna. Complete Household Renovations for the Fall of 2015

This fall my family will be doing some major renovations to our home. We will be converting a garage and moving my studio into another part of the house. I am so excited to finally have a plan that will help our home function and look much better!!

My first steps are getting all planned and organized. I have always used planners and loved the efficiency they allow me to organize my thoughts/plans. I have also love the creative side of decorating and for many years creating and making my own planner pages.

This year with all that has been happening I have enjoyed the quick ease of the a lovely planner by Discovery House (Our Daily Bread). It has been a simple nice size planner I have used as my main personal planner. I have also LOVED a lovely Limelife Planner for my “work” planner. This planner contains all my Josephine’s Designs plans/orders and also my homeschooling planning.  I have also loved all the midori travelers, Mom’s Agenda, etc. for journaling and prayer journals.

I have recently compiled a new system for my portable planners. I will share this new system at the end of the series of articles. This will also give me more time to develop it more fully. 🙂

Fun File Folder Junk Journal Process…

Hello Dear Friends,

I have been traveling with my husband for his work. But there is always time for a project or two!! I literally took one whole suitcase of projects to work on. I am always more ambitious than time allows!! 😉

Here’s a quick peak at my drafting table ready to get started….

OK, yes…I am a two fist-ed tea and coffee drinker!! 😉 Gotta have my beverages!!! I LOVE a hot cup of coffee and some iced green tea!! And I LOVE this little beach clip cup holder I found at Walmart. It is great to hold my tea on the side of my drafting table. It’s great…no water sweating on my work surface!! 🙂 And very, very affordable…thanks Walmart!! 😉

Here’s how I make these fun File Folder Junk Journals:

Each has 2-3 signatures, a clip and a band with decorating/journaling pages for each journal.

Here’s some of the process:

First I select the materials I will use. File folders, waxed twine, pages for the signatures, beads, bands, etc.

Next I measure, check and recheck. Then score and attach the folds.

Next I measure and then punch my holes for the folder to hold my signatures. I LOVE this simple awl…it always does the trick on punching paper/cardstock, easy peasy.

I then begin to build the signatures with all kinds of fun finds!! This week I was gathering fun inserts from the Korean market!! And I always try to include a current calendar in each one. I LOVE the whimsy of junk journals!! 🙂

After I build 2-3 signatures for each journal, I then begin accessorizing! I also include a clear business card slot in each one. 🙂

Finally I add my add my band and beads. I love to add a trinket to the band to help close it. And I love the beads on the spine as well. The opportunities are endless with all the clips, markers, etc.!!
