National Scrapbook Day Online Class…

12x12 Hunter Green Full Bloom Album Cover

Hello Dear Friends,

I am soooo excited to share with you a fun new event to my YouTube channel!! I have loved Creative Memories for many many years!! I loved when I was a consultant many years ago and I am thrilled to be apart of them again!!

Having a Grandmother with dementia and a Mom who recently passed with Alzheimer’s, memory keeping is invaluable!!! I loved working on albums for my family!! I loved making albums for my Grandmother and Mom. When they were confused, I would show them pictures and walk them through time by looking at their memory books. The nurses and doctors always thanked me. They knew that love and sharing memories was so much better than medications. And I must tell you though it didn’t heal their struggles, they both knew they were loved and they always could find a part of their history to bring them back to the present…as much as they were able. For my Grandmother it was always successful…for my Mom, I was so blessed that she found comfort and could always find something in her albums to remember.

Now they are both gone, and though I miss them both, I now am the caretaker of those precious albums and those incredible memories. It was a blessing then…and it is a blessing now.

Being a story teller is the greatest gift we can give to our families…I know this with all my heart. I know I have allot to be thankful for, and this part of my journey is a blessing from the Lord. And now it is my job, to pass on the stories to my children…and one day my grandchildren. And I will be thankful to have these family history books ready to share.

So come join with me and let’s build our family story journals together!!

Prayers and hugs…k 🙂

6 Ways to Prepare for the Holidays

Preparing for the holidays can be a lot of work. In fact, during the next few weeks, your Christmas to-do list is probably about to grow into an outrageous, poster-sized banner. Am I right? And then, before you know it, your Christmas experience turns into a frenzy of challenging task after challenging task.

Why not do it differently this year? Let’s get a head start on this season to ensure that this Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of Our Savior. Below you will find six ways you can prepare for Christmas while remembering the reason we celebrate the season.

1. Add an advent calendar to your nightly routine. An advent calendar is a wonderful way to prepare your family for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Not sure how an advent calendar works? Check out our article on How To Use An Advent Calendar and get a head start on the celebration this year.

2. Decorate your Christmas tree as a family.  Choose lights and ornaments that represent the true Christmas story. With the Twelve Names of Christmas Ornaments, you can start 12 days before Christmas—read one story each night with your family and have your children hang the corresponding ornament on the tree.

3. Serve others. Start a card ministry, organize a bake sale for your favorite charity, deliver pre-cooked Christmas dinners or easy-clean-up meals to your elderly friends, or volunteer your time at a local food pantry. By serving others at Christmas and year-round, you are answering God’s call in your life. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 ESV

4. Decorate gradually. Slow down the process of putting your nativity scene out. By displaying your manger scene one piece at a time, you will be able to truly focus on the involvement of each person in the miraculous first Christmas story—of course, topping it off Christmas Day with the arrival of baby Jesus.

5. Find time to sit quietly. As the busyness of the holiday season approaches, set aside a designated time each day to fully focus on listening to God’s voice. Pick up some prayer resources to help deepen your personal relationship with Jesus as we approach the celebration of His birth.

6. Study the Christmas story. Read enlightening books about the amazing birth of Jesus. The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamphelps readers celebrate the lineage and the majesty of Jesus Christ; while The Women of Christmas by Liz Curtis Higgsfocuses more on the biblical stories of Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna. Looking for materials to help your children or grandchildren learn more about the birth of Christ? Check out our Christmas-themed activity books such as Christmas Joysor Jesus Is Born!

We all know how easy it is to get caught up in the Christmas rush. At DaySpring, we want to come alongside you this season to bring you inspirational devotionals, helpful tips, and fun ideas to remind us all of the reason we celebrate Christmas. We hope our six ways to prepare for the holidays will help bring your focus back to the amazing Christmas story and His unfailing love for us.

Happy National Hobby Month!!

cropped-cropped-josephine-hatwomens-hats-2-josephines-silk-flowers-and-lace11.jpg

Hello Dear Friends,

In case you haven’t heard yet…it is National Hobby Month!! My heart truly LOVES this focus!!!  After all our hard pressed work to make all the wonderful Christmas gifts, this month we get to celebrate the simple art of crafting!!

20160104_171252(I couldn’t resist this picture, a street after my own heart in Scottsdale, AZ!!)

We began our month with a fun family painting night!! And today I reorganized all my washi on 12 and 14 inch embroidery hoops. I literally filled 5 hoops…and that’s not all of my washi tape, YIKES!! 🙂  My creative juices were flowing as I reorganized by color and design!! FUN!!!

I have many stamped images which need inking that I have on my to do list for this month. As well as tackling new supplies in my stash I have saved up for my slower months. I also ordered my family’s Valentine’s and our Anniversary photo albums today. Though it was online editing…it had it’s own version of creativity and fun!! 🙂 I also have images to frame for gifts and of course cards to make. I have several albums cut and ready to be created for Valentine’s gifts. And finally, I have made my weekly project plans for this new year.

Now with all these wonderful plans, my studio/office needs a quick clean out from all the Christmas fun. Also my files need to be transitioned to the new year in my office. So tomorrow is a wonderful day for order in my studio/office. And then I can hang the beautifully blessed pictures we painted as a family in our home, as well as the fun hoops of washi hoops that will be functional and beautiful to look upon!!:) And get everything back in order so the creative juices can continue to flow!! Then onto my list of fun and exciting projects for this wonderful month of crafting and new year!!

So Dear Friends, do you have your list going? Do you plan to enjoy the fun encouragement of this month? Do you have all in order after the holidays for a clear mind for projects? If so let’s all get going with great joy and creativity!! And if not, consider joining in on some of your projects waiting to be crafted…and for you to be encouraged, relaxed and enjoy the fun this month!!!

Have a wonderful day and keep crafting,

k
